A man allegedly robbed and threatened his Christchurch home with a gun.

Two men allegedly broke into a Christchurch home and threatened a resident with a gun.

Police were called to the scene at about 1:15 a.m. Monday night to report an escalating robbery at a property on Jutland St. in North New Brighton.

A police spokesman said initial reports said the two men broke into the house and demanded money from the occupant.

One of the couples allegedly threatened the victim with a gun and stole alcohol and cigarettes.

The couple then got into the car.

The spokesman said police were investigating.

A nearby resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he went outside when he saw a white car “suddenly” parked in front of his neighbor’s house around 11 p.m.

He heard a loud bang on the car door, followed by a scream, a loud bang, and “knocking noises” coming from inside the house.

He ran back inside his house to call the police and was chased away when he heard the car “scream”.

The resident said his neighbor had lived on the property with his dog for at least 15 years.
