Police checkpoints on Auckland’s southern border will be open before midnight and will enter Alert Level 3 in the south of the city.
Only those who are exempt from traveling for necessary reasons will be waved through checkpoints.
Superintendent of Police Shannon Gray said. Checkpoint Police will teach people to roam the border.
“We don’t want to move towards enforcing people who are trying to cross borders, but obviously, if it’s very clear, then maybe we need to go that route. But our initial point is people. Must be educated. “
He said there would be a separate lane for freight and stock trucks at all major checkpoints such as the state highway.
There are 612 community cases in the country – 597 of them in Auckland – with at least 49 new cases today.
