Hope in Strange Spectacles: Dystopias and their bright spots.

The Toronto International Festival of Writers features PEN Canada’s inaugural Graeme Gibson interview with Omar L. Akad and Margaret Atwood. September 22 at 7 p.m. Free. Register

Omar El Akad and Margaret Atwood are no strangers to contemplating the dystopian world in their stories and lives. Moderated by Nihala Eid, host of CBC Radio Ideas, the authors will explore current topics in dystopian literature, as well as enlightened places, the freedoms and boundaries of our times, and their implications through their fiction. His successful start in 2019, after the American war, Al-Akad’s latest novel, What a Strange Paradise, offers a profound movement on the global refugee crisis. Atwood is the author of more than 50 books of fiction, poetry, critical essays and graphic novels. Articles collected over the past 17 years, burning questions, will be published in 2022. This free hour-long talk will be available on September 22 at 7pm for 72 hours.
