He was accused of threatening to kill members of the Auckland community between July 13 and September 7.
He also faced two charges of supplying or distributing objectionable publications on August 5.
Defense attorney Peter Saddle argued for anonymity, saying the man or his family could be subjected to travel or intimidation.
Judge Claire Bennett allowed the man to be named until Tuesday afternoon.
