A request from the government to reinstate aid payments for businesses affected by the lockdown restrictions appears to be working.

Wendy Smith, chief executive of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, said chambers in her chamber, as well as in Auckland and elsewhere, have asked the government to pay for the restoration of more Covid 19.

Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson announced Friday that the second round of aid payments would open with requests starting Friday, September 17.

“This response from the government reflects the importance of the chamber network and our ability to communicate and influence government thinking and action.

“It’s not exactly what we asked for, but we’re happy with the results and it should help businesses that are under a lot of pressure.”

The scheme will remain available until all New Zealand Alerts return to Level 1.

Requests were again through domestic revenue, and the standards still apply – a minimum 30% reduction in revenue over seven days as a result of warning level 2 or higher, and for the second round of payments, drop Must be within seven days starting September 8

Rehabilitation support payments apply to Level 2 and above, Robertson said. There will then be two more payments, three weeks apart, as long as the RSP terms apply.
