Daniel Medvedev defeated Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final of the US Open tennis championships.

Daniel Medvedev has stopped Novak Djokovic from completing the Calendar Grand Slam.

Medvedev surprised the Serbian superstar by winning the US Open men’s singles title in straight sets in New York on Monday (NZ time).

The Russians won their first major title 6-4 6-4 6-4, preventing Djokovic from winning his fourth consecutive Grand Slam title.

Djokovic was trying to become the first man since Rod Lever in 1969 to win all four Grand Slam titles in the same year. Djokovic’s defeat tied him with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for 20 major titles.
