Firefighters rescued a man who was seriously injured in a house fire in Temaro on Sunday night.
The man was taken to Temaro Hospital in critical condition.
A spokesman for Fire and Emergency New Zealand said the house on the corner of Catherine and Edwards St., Parkside, was “well surrounded” when they arrived and there were reports of someone inside the property.
A spokesman said staff entered the home and rescued one person with serious injuries.
The spokesman confirmed that only one person was inside the property at the time of the fire.
A St. John’s spokesman said the man was in critical condition at Temaro Hospital.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and investigators will be at the scene on Monday. A police guard is currently stationed at the property.
Four fire engines and a command unit from Washdike, Timoka and Temaro stations attended the incident.
The fire was extinguished at 9 p.m. The single story house has been extensively damaged. Staff stayed up all night – checking the hotspots around the property, “said a spokesman for Fire and Emergency NZ.
